End of Season Get Together 2011

Our luck with the weather finally ran out and with an atrocious forecast at 6am we
thought we'd be very lonely at Twinwood for this event. However we were truly amazed at how many people did brave the elements and turned up to enjoy their day as best they could. In fact it stayed dry until around 12.30pm but by 1.30pm we were about to load the animals on the ark two by two! Every cloud has a silver lining and the museum volunteers reported an even bigger visitor rate than usual and everyone had the time to look at the memorabilia closely. The display of World War 2 artefacts is comprehensive and the rain added an extra dimension to the feel of what it must have been like during the war at RAF Twinwood.

Once again we had a huge variety of vehicles attending the show. A special mention must go to John Huckle who brought along 7 of his original Standard Vanguards and as an added bonus his Leyland Merryweather Fire Engine which was most definitely the star of the show. There were no volunteers to climb the 100ft raised platform though! To see many of the other superb vehicles and pictures of the event, check out our gallery.

Not surprisingly the motorbike and scooter contingent were thin on the ground this year but the die hard members of Oakley Motor Cycle club were there with their distinctive stand and warped sense of humour. Thanks also to the Beds and N Herts and Milton Keynes branches of Advanced Motorists for coming along as well as the hardy traders who were selling some interesting as well as useful stuff to our visitors. DJ Big Gazza kept us all entertained with everything from Rihanna to Glenn Miller and the food stalls kept us well fed and watered.
