The thinking about this event started about a year ago, the planning
in January and the hard graft in May culminating in a beautiful,
warm and sunny July day at Twinwood in Clapham, perfect for a day
of “chillaxing” and fun in the company of dedicated
motor enthusiasts and admirers alike. We were pleased to welcome
around 150 roadsters and vehicles of special interest at our first
show. Our “vision” to bring together people with differing
tastes but who enjoy and appreciate looking at other people’s
pride and joy whatever size, shape or style they come in was rewarded
with an incredible diversity of vehicles. Many of these motors were
photographed by talented photographers Peter and Love –Mai
Parker and can be viewed by linking to: http://www.clevercaptures.com
Check out our gallery for our
informal pictures which capture the relaxed flavour of the UK Roadster
Nationals, the eclectic mix of vehicles and the fantastic backdrop
of this World War 2 RAF station and surrounding woodland.
For those who
needed a little more than just cars, the museums proved to be a
big hit. The buildings contain a vast array of WW2 memorabilia,
authentically presented to give the feel of stepping straight back
in time. Adults and children alike were engrossed for quite some
time and museum volunteers were pleased to report “your car
people are very nice and show a genuine interest” Naturally!
The story of the mysterious disappearance of Glenn Miller from this
very control tower in 1944 held the attention of young and old and
added to the atmosphere of this place in the middle of nowhere.
Entertainment
in the form of DJ Big Gazza and a visit to the Mess Bar for beer
and the food court for lunch was another excuse to relax for a while
but Paul Brown soon woke everyone up when he fired up his dragster
and demonstrated yet another form of engine power. Children were
intrigued by the display of Tot Rods, the junior dragster, junior
funny car and pedal cars. We hope to see more of these junior cars
next year.
Our aim to provide
a relaxed and interesting day for individuals and families alike
was largely realised. As first timers we obviously made some mistakes
but have learned from them and rectified them in time for the UK
Pick- Up and Van Nationals on the 15th August when we will probably
make some different ones!.
Meanwhile we’d
like to thank everyone who helped us and for the support of all
the visitors on the day. We’ve had some great feedback from
so many people including
Daniel Beale (www.oldskoolreview.co.uk
) who e- mailed “Just wanted to say what a brilliant
day we all had on Sunday. There was a good turn out for cars to
say it was your first rod event, and the museum was just fantastic.
The kids and I loved the whole thing and are really looking forward
to the next show”.
If you have any comments, suggestions or photos you’d like
to add to our gallery, we’d love to hear from you. E-mail
